Maiden assimilates her psychic Shadow
through the confrontation with traumatic experience from the past.
As she moves through the innocence of her youth,
she must reflect on the consequences of her unconscious choices.
Throughout the story, we observe different representations of female archetypes
and their subordination to a specific spectrum of events.
Their helpful, transformative characteristics are offered naturally
to the main character. The presence of animals serves as the personification
of strong human desires - often driving their subconscious action
(horse - sexual drive; fish - dreaminess).
